Musical Legends Park Connects Sound, Culture & the Entrepreneurial Spirit

Musical Legends Park, located at 311 Bourbon Street in the heart of the French Quarter, was a remarkable idea born at a time when the famous (or infamous) street might have been known only for wild parties and Mardi Gras. Today, the nation and the world see the landmark pocket park, once a run-down space, featured on television and streaming online, during national and international events that are the economic lifeblood of one of America's most unique cities.
The park is an open-air courtyard where people encounter both the historical legacy and the ongoing vitality of the city's music scene. Visitors from around the world enjoy morning beignets and café-au-lait, roast beef po'boys at lunch, or an evening Sazerac while mingling with life-sized bronze statues of famous New Orleans musical artists. The park hosts regular live music, maintaining a direct connection to the city's vibrant performance culture with visitors and locals alike.
Conceived by New Orleans Influencers
Two New Orleans icons – Eddie L. Sapir (1937–2024), former Louisiana State Representative, two-time New Orleans City Councilmember and Orleans Parish Municipal Court judge, and Larry McKinley (1927–2013), renowned radio personality, music promoter, political activist, and "Voice of Jazz Fest" – hatched the concept of Musical Legends Park and connected the diverse team suited to carry it out, including lawyers, tourism, hospitality and public relations professionals, politicos, musicians and music lovers, corporations, and small business owners.
Eddie and Larry were extraordinary men who built an enormous crowd of loyal friends and collaborators who shared their values and aspirations. Throughout their lives, they unselfishly offered their intellect, experience, and passion, nurturing and mentoring those who would follow them to continue the legacy of their beloved New Orleans. Their values, professionalism and love of the New Orleans community and its possibilities live on.

Located on Gentilly Blvd, steps from the fairgrounds and the sounds of Jazz Fest, McKinley Studios welcomes the community – artists, performers, business leaders and more – to collaborate, celebrate, and create. The recording studio – featuring filming, meeting, workshop, rehearsal, and screening spaces – was the vision of advertising executive Glenda McKinley, daughter of the late Larry McKinley. She renovated the building where her father broadcasted to honor his life's work and influence, and to pay it forward by empowering the community to connect with each other.
